History of Christianity

The Faculty of Theology and Religion at Oxford has had a long engagement with the History of Christianity. At present, the Faculty maintains strengths in Anglo-Saxon Church history, Reformation history, and Patristics.  

Sex and the Church

Led by Rev Prof Diarmaid MacCulloch and generously funded by a grant from the British Academy, this project explores changing attitudes to sex, gender, and marriage in Christianity. Plans for the project include an online database of materials, and research for a book on Sex and the Church to be published in 2024.
