Thesis title:

Kierkegaard, Martensen, and the Problem of Post-Kantian Theology and Philosophy

Supervisor:

Prof. Joel Rasmussen

Research

My research explores the relationship between theology and philosophy in the thought of Søren Kierkegaard and Hans Lassen Martensen. Establishing the proper relationship between theology and philosophy constitutes a central question in the works of both these Danish Golden-Age Figures and permeates the intellectual environment of the time. By considering more closely the complex relationship between Martensen and Kierkegaard and their respective views of theology and philosophy, I hope to reveal new ways of approaching Kierkegaard’s pseudonymous works as well as explore Martensen as a thinker in his own right.
